Hello everyone,
As part of the "Indie Film Music Contest", here's my contribution of film music, on the animation "Grizzly business".
The first time I watched this video, I thought to myself “wow, this is going off in all directions”... Of course, the main tone of this video is humor. But there's also action, tenderness, violence (there's even a bear that eats two humans!!!), and a little sadness. And also a message "accept yourself as you are, you'll be freer and happier". All that in 3 minutes 51 seconds!
So I asked myself, “How am I going to compose a piece of music that keeps up with this frantic pace?”
Then it became clear to me that the added value of music could be to bring a form of coherence to this video, a common thread, while adapting, of course, to the changing tones. That's why a theme develops throughout the video.
I also found that the video could leave a lot of room for music. For example, there's no dialogue. So I composed music that doesn't just support the video, but stands alongside it to tell the story!
Finally, the final theme was important to me. It brings the message I was talking about above. I immediately thought of a gypsy theme, soaring, fun, and evoking freedom.
So composing this piece was a big challenge. I hope you enjoy the result.
